The east side of the mountain Pilio ends at the Aegeon sea. It is rather steep and at its ends there are beautiful beaches that consist of rocky places in some areas and panoramic sandy beaches at other areas. The beaches on the other side of the mountain, the Pagasitic Bay, are much more smooth and calm so there is a lot of water sports activity there. There is easy transportation to Chalkidiki and the Sporades islands form here, so this place is a favorite for many people.

The mountain is referenced in mythology as the summer retreat of the 12 Olympian Gods and as the mythic country of the Cetaurs. It is very green and known forits natural beauty.  There are 24 main vilages and some other small ones with houses of a unique architecture that seem like they have sprouted on peaks and summits of the mountain along with the green trees.
